Ecomotive Solutions presented at Hydrogen Expo 2025 the tangible results of the fruitful collaboration with Isotta Fraschini Motori S.p.A. (IFM). Officially launched with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on September 12, 2024, during the previous edition of Hydrogen Expo, this partnership saw Ecomotive Solutions engaged in the development of advanced solutions for IFM engines.
The flagship project, initially presented as a concept at Ecomondo 2024, is the Diesel Dual Fuel AFS (Adaptive Fuel System) system applied to an Isotta Fraschini 1300 series engine.
This project, which has reached the end of its experimental phase and has begun industrialization, represents a significant step forward.
The development was conducted entirely by Ecomotive Solutions in close collaboration with the Isotta Fraschini Motori technical team. IFM supervised the operations on its engine, ensuring full compatibility of Ecomotive actions and technology with the characteristics of the engine.
The Diesel Dual Fuel AFS solution allows the Isotta Fraschini Diesel engine to be powered by a mix of fuels, including Diesel (or HVO) and Biomethane (and/or Natural Gas), or Diesel (or HVO) and Green Hydrogen. This approach guarantees great flexibility of use and, thanks to the use of carbon-neutral fuels that emit biogenic carbon dioxide, allows the engine to eliminate the production of new CO2.
Ecomotive technology allows diesel to intervene to ignite the mixture, also allowing significant substitution percentages, such as up to 70% biomethane in stationary conditions or up to 50% hydrogen mixed with diesel.
